How to use chopsticks

Chopsticks are utensils widely used in Asia, especially China, Korea, Japan, and Thailand. They are shaped like two sticks, which can be made of bone, metal, wood, jade, or ivory, depending on the owner and intended use. Chopsticks are used by billions of people and probably originated during the Shang Dynasty in China, between 1766-1122 BC. Proper use of this tool takes some practice, and each culture that uses them has its own traditions and superstitions associated with utensils.

But of course they can be tricky to use when you first try it, so here’s a small explanation on how you can do it:)!

Pick up the first chopstick and put it between where your index finger and thumb connect.

Take the second chopstick with your index finger and thumb.

Try opening and closing the chopsticks a few times!

Start picking up food! Working from a 45° angle may be easiest right now. Once you have it steady, lift it up!!

And there you have it! That’s how you use chopsticks!!
